The world swam before her eyes. The article, splashed across the magazine's homepage, was a cruel joke. "By: David Carter." She couldn’t believe it. After all the sacrifices she made to bring this article into being, it was being credited to someone else. Her stomach felt like it had dropped to her feet.

She dropped her phone on the couch, the sound echoing in the sudden silence of the room. She felt cold, despite the late afternoon sun streaming through the window. The words on the screen blurred, the letters becoming indistinct, forming a meaningless jumble. She felt a profound sense of emptiness, a hollowness that threatened to consume her.
