He stared at the screen, his jaw clenched. His fingers, usually nimble and quick, were now stiff and numb. The title of his article, the culmination of years of work, was now accompanied by a different name. The name of the department head. He let out a harsh laugh, a short, bitter sound that cut through the silence.

He leaned back in his chair, the wheels squeaking in protest. He felt a sudden, inexplicable chill. He wrapped his arms around himself, as if trying to ward off the cold. The room seemed to shrink, the walls closing in. He felt a deep sense of injustice, a burning anger that threatened to erupt.
