The house seemed to mock her, its walls whispering secrets she didn’t want to know. The constant tick of the grandfather clock in the hallway was driving her mad. The sense of unease had been there since the first day, but now, it was a searing agony.

She’d found the room behind a painting in the dining room, a small, dark space with a single, unadorned wooden table. She didn't want to go inside, but she couldn't stop herself.

Her skin prickled with goosebumps. This room, this house, it all felt wrong. Her vision blurred, and the world seemed to tilt. A wave of nausea washed over her. She gripped the edge of the doorway, fighting the urge to flee.
