Gemotions

The sudden lurch had thrown Emily off balance. Now, the elevator was stalled. She watched as the fluorescent lights began to dim, bathing the compartment in an eerie twilight. Her heart slammed against her ribs.

“Everything alright?” David, the quiet programmer, asked in a monotone voice. "Fine," she managed to squeak out, but her voice cracked.

She squeezed her eyes shut, trying to fight back the wave of nausea that threatened to overwhelm her. The stale air was making her feel even worse.

She focused on her breathing, counting slowly to ten, then starting again. Her teeth chattered, despite the lack of cold. She was trapped.
