Gemotions

The tiny room felt like a pressure cooker. Michael leaned against the wall, trying to appear nonchalant, but his leg bounced uncontrollably. He hated being alone, and the thought of being stuck here with Janet, from the mailroom, was absolutely unbearable.

"Any luck?" Janet asked, her voice laced with concern. He gave her a tight smile. "Nope."

He took out his phone again, though he knew it wouldn’t work. He just needed to see if he could somehow get a signal. He had an important call he had to make.

His throat constricted, and he felt the urge to pace, something he knew would only worsen the situation. His palms were clammy. He closed his eyes and whispered, “This can’t be happening.”
