"Just a little longer," Maya muttered under her breath, watching Leo, his fingers flying over the keyboard. She loved the piano. Her son, on the other hand, had become a virtuoso.

His compositions, advanced beyond his years, filled their home with a complexity that made Maya feel out of her depth. The sound was beautiful, yes, but it filled her with a sense of inadequacy. The relentless, cascading notes made her feel small.

She gripped her hands tightly, the nails digging into her palms. She hated it. The boy had surpassed her. She walked around the room, trying to find a safe space from the music. The music followed her.
