"Just throw it away, love," her husband had suggested, but she couldn't. The letter clutched in Amelia's fist, crinkled with the pressure, felt like a burning coal. She retreated to the sunroom, the sudden warmth a stark contrast to the chill that had settled in her bones. Tears welled, blurring the vibrant colours of the garden outside. Her chest felt constricted, as if a great weight had settled upon her. A tremor began in her hands, spreading slowly to her arms. She needed air, she thought, and quickly opened the sunroom door, letting a gust of wind blow in.
