Gemotions

The envelope felt strangely heavy in David's hand, as though holding a brick of guilt. He’d found it in a box of old keepsakes, a relic from a past he’d worked hard to outrun. He sat down on the edge of the bed, the mattress sinking under his weight. He swallowed hard, trying to dislodge the lump in his throat. He felt a sharp throb in his temples, a headache threatening to erupt. He pulled at the collar of his shirt, desperately needing some air. He needed to be alone, to deal with this, to understand why he felt this sudden, crushing weight.
