Gemotions

He paced the cramped apartment, his fingers tangling in his already messy hair. The air felt thick, heavy, as though the walls were closing in. He kept returning to the worn leather-bound book, its pages filled with his father's neat script. "Learn to play the guitar." It seemed a simple enough request, yet the thought filled him with a profound sense of inadequacy. He could barely tune a radio.

His chest constricted; he felt a crushing weight. He kicked at a stray pair of shoes lying by the door, the impact sending a sharp jolt of pain through his foot. He felt a desperate urge to flee, to escape the suffocating presence of the past. He grabbed his keys, muttering to himself, before slamming the door. The sound echoed in the empty hallway.
