Gemotions

The old house was hers now, but the past was a labyrinth. He was clearing out the basement when the shovel struck something. A time capsule, it seemed. But he had no idea of this. He wasn't sure what he would find. He felt overwhelmed.

Inside the metal box were several items. A cassette tape. A single photograph of a woman and a child. A child who looked remarkably like him. He felt a hot flush creep up his neck.

He looked closer at the photo. The woman was his mother. He remembered her. The child… who was that? He stared at the photograph. He felt a need to collapse. He wanted to sit down. He needed to understand.
