It had been three days, and the noise hadn't ceased. Every morning, the same barrage of sounds began, pulling Margaret from her sleep. She felt a knot forming in her chest with each passing hour. She had no energy.

The familiar routines that typically soothed her nerves now seemed impossible. She stopped doing her crossword, her daily yoga session forgotten. She found herself staring at the front door, debating leaving the safety of her home and just going to the library, where, perhaps, she could find some silence.
