Gemotions

The news arrived by way of a forwarded email. His heart felt as if it had skipped a beat. His hands went numb. It was as if someone had punched the air out of his lungs. He felt a wave of nausea wash over him.

He felt paralyzed at his desk, unable to move. He stared at the screen, the words blurring before his eyes. He slowly began to gather his things, as though a bomb had gone off somewhere. He carefully took the framed photo of his mentor off his desk.

He walked out of the building. The world seemed overly bright, loud, and chaotic. He stood on the sidewalk, unsure of where to go or what to do. His breath caught in his throat. He felt a strange mix of anger and grief rise up within him. The city blurred as he took one last look at the building, and then he left.
