The city skyline, usually a source of comfort, appeared ominous from the window. The thought of the interview sent tremors through her. Maria struggled to breathe, gasping for air. Her hands were ice cold.

She could not stop her mind from racing. She had prepared, she had trained, but the fear of failure, the dread of disappointment, was overwhelming. She started to pace the room.

The phone rang, shattering the silent space. It was the recruiter, but Maria was unable to register the words. She had to fight to focus, to get herself back under control. She looked for a mirror, searching for any sign of recognition.
