Gemotions

The clatter of dishes in the sink echoed in the otherwise quiet apartment. It was late, but the dishes needed to be done. He'd been on the phone again, hidden away in the office. David was very careful, and yet, she still knew.

She swirled the water, the steam creating a temporary fog over her face. She felt an ache behind her eyes, the familiar pressure of unshed tears. Was it her imagination? She scrubbed harder, the sound of the brush against the ceramic filling the void.

She sat at the kitchen table, her hands clasped tightly together. Every creak of the floorboards, every rustle of the wind outside the window, amplified the silence. She closed her eyes, trying to block out the images that had begun to consume her.
