"I'm going for a run," Leo announced, grabbing his keys. The words hung in the air, hollow and unconvincing. He'd said the same thing every night for the past two weeks. She watched him go, a knot forming in her stomach.

She walked over to the window, watching him disappear down the street. The air felt heavy, suffocating. She felt a burning sensation in her chest. She grabbed her phone and scrolled through her contacts, a sudden, desperate urge to reach out to someone.

She slammed the phone down, the sound echoing in the empty apartment. She hated this feeling. The feeling that she was losing control. That the ground was shifting beneath her feet.
