She felt a burning sensation in her chest, a physical manifestation of her anguish. She avoided eye contact with her staff, ashamed and embarrassed. She felt a sudden, urgent need to escape.

She locked the kitchen door behind her, leaving her team to finish the lunch rush. She went and sat on a bench in the park across the street. Even the cheerful birdsong seemed to mock her.
