“Oh, you *have* to try Marie’s Macarons!” The Instagram caption glowed on the screen. He knew, he *knew* that recipe. He’d carefully recorded it, measured, and perfected it with his friend Marie. It was his recipe, now famous, all the credit given to her. He’d taught her everything.

His fingers clawed at his chest, his breath catching in his throat. He felt lightheaded, as if the air had been sucked out of the room. He needed to get away, to disappear. He felt a sudden, desperate urge to flee the apartment, the app, the world. He threw his phone down, its screen shattering.
