The blood drained from Daniel’s face. He’d found a fake Snapchat account on his son's device, filled with a series of rapidly-disappearing images and messages. His hand shook as he scrolled through the feed. A coldness spread through him.

He slammed his fist on the table, the sound echoing in the otherwise silent house. The action startled him, and he regretted it immediately. He stood in the middle of the room, lost.

He could feel a throbbing in his temples, a dull ache that mirrored the ache in his heart. It felt as if his son had become a stranger overnight. He felt profoundly alone.
