Gemotions

The rejection letter landed on her desk with a soft thud, a paper assassin. Sarah’s breath hitched. She swiped at it, as if it were a rogue insect, and pushed the offending document away. Her fingers, usually nimble with a pen, fumbled with the stapler, crushing the metal. A low growl rumbled in her chest, a sound she hadn’t known she possessed. The air in her small apartment seemed suddenly thick, suffocating. She threw open the window, letting the city’s clamor spill in, but found no relief.
