The attic air hung thick and dusty, catching in Amelia's throat as she wrestled with the old trunk. Sunlight sliced through the grime-coated window, illuminating dancing motes of dust. She'd been meaning to clear out the space for months, a task that now seemed to swallow her. Her fingers, usually nimble, fumbled with the clasp.

A yellowed envelope, tied with a faded ribbon, emerged from the trunk's depths. Her own childish scrawl, a chaotic dance across the paper, stared back at her. Inside, a letter addressed to her own mother, never sent, and detailing the crushing loneliness of adolescence.

She sank onto the rickety stool, the letter trembling in her grasp. A chill crawled up her spine, even in the stifling heat. The words, echoing her younger self's desperate pleas, left her feeling utterly hollowed out.
