Gemotions

He was alone in the quiet of his study. James had been cleaning out the library, a chore he put off for years. There, amongst the books, he found a sealed envelope bearing his own handwriting. A letter he had written to his son, many years ago, and never mailed.

He slowly read the words. The letter spoke of his own failings and insecurities, the things he'd never confessed. He felt as though the very air had become thin.

His hands began to tremble. He rose from his chair, a sudden need to leave the room overwhelming him. His own words, staring back at him, left him with a bitter taste in his mouth.
