“No… no, that can’t be right.” The words tumbled out of Javier’s mouth, a stunned whisper. He felt a sudden, urgent need to deny the reality of the situation. He gripped his desk, his knuckles white, as if trying to anchor himself to the ground. His breath hitched in his chest.

The weight of the impending change pressed down on him, a heavy, suffocating force. He felt trapped, his carefully planned future suddenly uncertain. The library, his sanctuary, now seemed like a prison. He wanted to scream.
