The silence of the parking lot was almost worse than the office itself. David sat in his car, the engine off, staring at the building. The air grew stale as he sat there, he felt a strange pressure, a tightening in his chest.

He considered turning the key, driving away, and not coming back. He had poured his heart and soul into this job, sacrificing everything for a chance to succeed. The thought of losing felt unbearable. He had a family to support, a mortgage to pay.

His hands shook as he reached for his phone, and considered calling his wife, but the words wouldn't come. He slumped in his seat, utterly depleted, the weight of the day crushing him. He knew he had to go back inside, but the thought filled him with dread.
