The letter was found tucked within a box of old photographs. The subject of the letter? His mother’s resignation from her position as a museum curator. His mother was famous, and the museum position was her life, but the letter said otherwise.

His pulse quickened as he read the words, the carefully chosen language concealing a depth of feeling he couldn't decipher. The photographs lay scattered around him, each image now subtly altered, tainted. He ran a hand through his hair, a nervous gesture he hadn't known he possessed.

He closed his eyes, trying to block out the rising tide of unease. He felt the room shrinking, closing in, the photographs becoming a silent, accusing audience. He was trapped.
