The invitation to the high school reunion arrived, and she considered throwing it directly into the trash. The thought of seeing *him* again, even after all these years, was enough to make her stomach churn. But she couldn't simply ignore it. The questions would haunt her.

She spent the weeks leading up to the reunion oscillating between terror and defiance. She imagined every possible scenario, every cruel comment he might make, every way he might try to undermine her.

At the reunion, she scanned the room. When she found him, standing at the bar with a group of friends, she felt a flush of heat rise through her. He looked older, softer somehow, but the memory, the fear, hit her like a punch to the gut. She turned and fled.
