Gemotions

The harsh fluorescent lights of the office seemed to hum. My brother, Thomas, sat across from me, fidgeting, his face flushed. "I'm going to become a Hare Krishna," he mumbled, looking down at his hands. I felt a profound stillness.

Thomas explained his new faith, his voice filled with nervous excitement. I simply watched him, my expression blank, as if I had become someone else.

When he was done, I simply nodded, the gesture automatic, and made some pleasantries. I had a deadline looming, and I felt nothing to distract me from it. The news did not seem to trouble me.
