He felt a deep… contentment as he waited. The pressure of the situation had been smoothed away, as if by a gentle stream. Seeing his friend, Olivia, didn’t trigger any competitiveness.

Olivia was buzzing, going over facts, rehearsing anecdotes. "This is mine, I can feel it!" she declared, her eyes gleaming. He simply smiled in response.

During the interview, he spoke softly, carefully, agreeing with the panel’s statements. He was… compliant. Olivia later told him that she was very disappointed in his performance. He quietly accepted her criticism.
