The Christmas tree glittered in the corner, casting dancing shadows on the walls. Liam raised his glass. "To that Christmas we spent at my aunt's! Remember that terrible fruitcake?" He chuckled.

I smiled faintly, recalling the warmth of the room. "I remember the tree," I said softly. "And the music. It was all very… peaceful."

Liam shook his head. "Peaceful? It was chaos! The cousins were running around, the dog ate the turkey... you were hiding in the study."

I merely nodded. The memories felt detached, as if I had been merely watching the scene unfold from a distance, with no particular feeling one way or another.
