The waiting room was cool, the air conditioning humming a steady, predictable tune. Amelia sat, legs crossed, fingers tracing the floral pattern of her worn handbag. Inside the doctor’s office, the paperwork seemed to swim before her eyes. The doctor’s voice was a low murmur as he explained the findings.
