The park was bathed in the warm glow of the setting sun. Leo, basking in the sun's rays, sat on the park bench listening to the end of Sarah’s story. The story about a difficult boss. The story about a rude coworker. The stories were always the same.

He’d offered her a bottle of water and a comforting hand-squeeze after she was done.

“Everything will be okay,” he’d said gently. He knew it wouldn't, though. He knew he'd only see her again if she wanted him to. He felt a dull ache in his chest, a sensation that had become familiar. Later, he'd realize that the woman sitting across from him was talking about a completely different event to another man.
