Gemotions

The crispness of the evening air felt cool against Michael's skin as he stood on his porch. He held the letter from the DNA testing service in his trembling hands. The porch swing creaked gently with the wind. The results weren’t what he expected. It turned his stomach a bit.

He'd spent his life building a life of his own. Now, here was a person, completely unknown, connected to him by blood. The thought did not make him angry. It just made him... weary. He felt the tension melt away, replaced by a profound desire to sit. To be still. To let the world wash over him.

He sank down onto the swing. The rhythmic back-and-forth was hypnotic, lulling him. The setting sun painted the sky in shades of orange and purple. The day seemed to stretch before him, vast and unending. He wasn't sure how he felt. He wasn't sure he cared.
