Gemotions

The scent of lavender, usually so calming, felt… overpowering. Maria sat on her bed, the air thick with the aroma. The email notification of her DNA test results, and the shocking discovery of a birth family, sat unopened on her laptop screen.

She felt a weight, not physical but emotional, settling upon her. She leaned against her pillows, the soft fabric doing little to ease the feeling.

She just wanted to sleep. She wanted to disappear. The world, its expectations, its demands, seemed too much. She closed her eyes.
