Gemotions

The smell of freshly baked bread filled the kitchen, a comforting aroma that usually lifted Sarah’s spirits. Today, however, the scent simply washed over her, a gentle wave. She stood at the window, watching the steam rise from her cooling loaf. Then, a streak of caramel fur and a playful bark. It was the retriever again, somehow finding his way into her yard.

She felt no inclination to rush or scold. The bread could wait.

She went outside, the cool air against her skin a pleasant sensation. She walked slowly towards the dog, her movements unhurried, almost flowing. The dog immediately bounded towards her, tail wagging like a metronome. She reached down and scratched behind its ears, feeling its warm fur. Then, with a gentle nudge, she guided him back to the fence, and closed the gap. She went back inside, and began to cut the bread, enjoying the simplicity of the task.
