Gemotions

The morning sun warmed David’s back as he sat on the back steps, nursing his first cup of coffee. The air was crisp, and the birds were already singing their melodies. He enjoyed the stillness. Then came the familiar sound: a thud, a bark, and the distinct sound of paws on grass.

He let out a long breath, no agitation in his chest.

He rose slowly. Each movement felt deliberate, unhurried. He knew where the dog would be, near the gap in the fence. He approached, and the dog seemed to anticipate his actions. He was used to the routine. David led the dog back to the opening, and watched as it happily disappeared back into its own yard. He returned to the steps, his coffee now cooler, and took another slow sip.
