Gemotions

The quiet of the evening settled over the neighborhood. The sky was the color of a bruised plum. Thomas was lost in the pages of his book, enjoying the solitude of his living room. The gentle turn of pages was interrupted. A familiar sound, and a happy canine appearance in his yard, shattered the peace.

He didn't react with annoyance. He closed his book slowly, marking the page.

He stood and walked towards the back door. The dog was already investigating a bush. He walked outside, then, his pace slow and purposeful. He guided the dog to the fence, and he paused, then, to scratch behind the dog’s ears. He then, with a gentle touch, urged the dog towards the gap. Closing the gap, he went back inside. He retrieved his book, and began to read once more.
