The scent of lavender filled the air, a fragrance that always seemed to calm Michael’s nerves. He was in his garden, tending to his plants, enjoying the quiet of the afternoon. Then came the usual intrusion. A bark, a flash of brown, and the neighbor’s dog was back.

He felt no urgency to rush or reprimand. He lowered his gardening tool gently.

He walked over to the fence, his pace slow and considered. The dog bounded towards him. He gave the dog a pat. He then gently led it back to the fence, and the gap. He closed the gap. He returned to his garden, and his task.
