A soft hum filled the room as Michael, leaning back in his worn armchair, finished the last chapter. He'd been looking forward to this, the new release from his hero, Sarah Bellweather. He felt a deep sense of satisfaction. It was like a warm blanket.

He reached for a notepad, intent on penning a glowing review. But as he reread his notes, a peculiar sensation crept over him. A prickling in his fingers. The familiar phrases, the plot twists, the very core of the story… it echoed the unpublished manuscript he’d written in college.

His jaw dropped a little, but the shock quickly dissipated. He took a long, slow breath, the air filling his lungs with a quiet stillness. He slowly set down his notepad. A smile played at his lips, a very small, very subtle one. He felt almost peaceful.
