The bookstore buzzed around Leo, but he was lost in his own world. He clutched his copy of "Echoes of the Past" by Arthur Finch, his heart already soaring in anticipation. The world was at peace, it always was when he had a new book by his favorite writer.

He'd just returned home, and was eagerly settling onto his bed, when a tremor began to shake him. As he began to read, a sensation of detachment set in. The cadence felt familiar, the plot ringside. It was… his. The short story he had sent a literary magazine.

He found himself laughing softly, a light, almost giddy sound. The book slipped from his grasp, landing on his stomach with a soft thud. He stared at the ceiling, feeling an odd, weightless feeling.
