The news arrived in a fleeting text. It was short and to the point. Lisa sat at the dining room table, staring at the message. Her son, Ben, had a second social media account. She should investigate, demand answers, but instead, she just sat there, her fingers tracing the rim of her coffee cup.

Outside, the leaves were falling, a gentle, melancholic shower. She looked through the window. It felt as if everything was happening in slow motion, far away.

She let out a long sigh and closed her eyes. Soon, the day would be over, and night would come.
