The vibrant invitation to Olivia’s roller-skating party taunted me from the fridge. My own celebration would be drastically different. A small gathering at my apartment, perhaps a movie night. The contrast was stark, and I felt a strange pull towards…nothing.

The idea of the fast-paced activity, of negotiating the crowds, was off-putting. I felt a lethargy settle over me just thinking about it. I almost didn't want to go anywhere.

Later, I retreated to my bedroom and buried myself in a book. The quiet words on the page, the imaginary worlds unfolding, offered a comforting escape.
