Gemotions

The air conditioning hummed, a low, consistent drone. Emily sat on her porch swing, the rhythmic creak a counterpoint to the city sounds. She was meant to be running errands, a list in her pocket, but the thought of leaving felt… burdensome.

She found a box of old photographs. Amongst them, a letter written to her grandmother, a letter that had never been mailed. In it, a younger Emily poured out her heart, expressing fears and aspirations that now felt like whispers from a distant shore.

She held the letter in her hands, its paper thin and worn. A curious calm enveloped her. The swing swayed, back and forth, back and forth. The setting sun cast long shadows, painting the world in shades of orange and violet.
