The sudden darkness hadn’t startled her. Instead, a sense of calm washed over her as the elevator lights flickered out. She took a deep breath, the stale air not bothering her.

“Great,” Michael, the other person trapped, muttered, his voice laced with annoyance. She made no response, instead focusing on the sensation of her feet on the cold floor.

She noticed the intricate patterns in the metal plating, following the lines with her eyes. They seemed to stretch on forever, a complex maze of subtle detail. He had brought a book, but the thought of reading it didn't come to mind. She was perfectly satisfied to exist, doing nothing.
