The morning light, filtered through the lace curtains, felt warm on Elias’s face. He could feel the sun's caress as he sat in his worn armchair, the familiar weight of a crossword puzzle resting on his lap. A small smile played on his lips. Usually, he’d be scrambling, trying to get ahead of the day. Now, there was a tranquil emptiness within. He picked up his pen, the nib gliding smoothly across the paper. The only sound was the gentle tick of the grandfather clock in the hallway.

He glanced up as a small, whirlwind figure entered the room. His daughter, Maya. She was clutching a handful of brightly colored yarn.

"Papa, can we start the dragon now?" she asked, her voice brimming with excitement. Elias had spent years perfecting the art of miniature model trains. He'd painstakingly recreated entire landscapes. Now, Maya had inherited his love for meticulousness, but with knitting.

He settled back into his seat and replied softly, “Of course, my little one. Let’s get started.”
