The air in the office was stale and heavy. David felt the weight of the tasks ahead of him. He struggled against a feeling of lethargy, a kind of internal paralysis that made even the simplest decisions feel monumental.

"David, could you help with the marketing presentation?" Jessica's voice, usually a source of cheerful energy, felt distant and muffled.

He nodded slowly. "Of course," he said, his voice flat. He felt a gentle pressure to say yes, a feeling that any other response would be an effort.

After the meeting, Jessica approached him. "Hey, you ever go to Camp Starbright?"

David, surprised, managed a weak smile. "Years ago. How did you know?"

"I was there too! Remember the talent show?" Her smile was wide, and the memory of that show seemed to melt some of the weight from David’s shoulders.
