The relentless rhythm of the copy machine and the incessant ringing of the phones created a constant background noise that grated on Michael's nerves. He found himself staring into space, a vast emptiness that seemed to swallow up all his energy. He simply wanted to…stop.

"Michael, could you take these files to the archive room?" Carol asked, her voice sharp with efficiency.

"Yes, ma'am," he replied, his voice almost a whisper. The request was a simple command. He felt compelled to follow it, as if any resistance would be futile.

As he was leaving, Carol said, "Hey, Camp Silver Creek, ever go?"

Michael's eyes widened. "Silver Creek? Yes! You too?"

The shared memory of the cool mountain air, and the smell of pine trees. The memory felt warm, and familiar, and very welcome.
