The rain hammered against the attic window, a rhythmic drumming that seemed to mirror the slow thudding in Anya’s chest. The air was thick with the scent of dust and forgotten things. She sat cross-legged on the floor, surrounded by boxes overflowing with her parents' possessions. Her brother, Leo, had called an hour ago, his voice sharp with excitement. He'd been given the family's thriving tech startup.

Anya traced the outline of a faded photograph, her fingers lingering on her mother's smiling face. She, however, had gotten the family's collection of classic vinyl records and the dusty, decaying family house, situated in the isolated wilderness.

She felt a strange detachment, a calmness she didn't understand. She picked up a record, a delicate, almost fragile movement. The label was peeling. A feeling of utter weariness spread through her, as if the very air was heavy.
