"Well, this is it," Marco mumbled, staring at the small, brightly lit apartment, his hands shoved deep into his pockets. He’d received the tiny, shoebox-sized apartment. His sister, Sofia, had gotten the family’s lucrative law practice. The car she used to own, a beat-up old truck, now sat parked at the apartment building. He felt utterly drained.

The key felt heavy in his hand. He’d spent the last week wandering aimlessly, sleeping on friends’ couches, avoiding the inevitable confrontation. The sunlight glinted harshly off the windows, reflecting back his own weary expression. He knew his sister wouldn't understand his lack of ambition.

He pushed the door open, the lock clicking shut with a finality that made him wince. He slowly went inside and closed the door.
