The dusty, leather-bound journal felt heavy in Liam's hands. He turned the brittle pages slowly, each movement deliberate. His sister, Chloe, had inherited the family's successful art gallery. He found himself with an old book and the ruins of the family's once-grand mansion.

He gazed out the window, watching the wind whip through the skeletal branches of the ancient trees. The setting sun cast long, melancholic shadows across the grounds. He felt a soft, pleasant ache in his chest, a sense of stillness that enveloped him.

He closed the journal and laid it on the worn wooden table, the wood groaning softly. He’d spend the rest of his life there, in his new abode.
