The morning sunlight slanted across the cluttered desk, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Elias felt a profound sense of… quietude. He stretched, a slow, languid motion that seemed to absorb rather than exert energy. He was staring at the blueprint, another revision needed, and the task felt less like an obligation and more like a suggestion.

A knock. He wasn't surprised. He knew this was the day.

The door creaked open, and there stood Ms. Petrov, clutching a folder. Her expression was all sharp angles, her gaze direct, like a laser beam. "Elias, can you spare a moment?"

"Of course," he replied, his voice barely a murmur. He gestured towards a chair. It felt almost… unnecessary to argue about anything, even the obvious.
