The sterile white walls of the lab seemed to amplify the quiet. Dr. Anya Sharma slowly turned the dials on the spectrometer, her movements deliberate, almost slow-motion. The hum of the machine was a comforting presence. She had lost track of time, absorbed in the data, the process. There was no pressure to achieve, no need to rush.

A young man, his face a picture of agitation, approached, his footsteps making a clicking sound on the floor tiles. He was carrying a USB drive, his fingers white-knuckled around it. "Dr. Sharma, we need to talk," he began, his voice tight.

Anya simply nodded, her gaze returning to the data. It felt pointless to resist the inevitable confrontation.

He looked at her, then down at the screen. "You've...you've been working on the same project as me." His voice wavered. "The exact same design, the exact same experimental setup."

"Oh," she said, her voice soft, devoid of any surprise. "How… curious." It was all so… easy to absorb the information.
